Scout Report.
Flexibility is the name of the game in scouting. So on a rare, and probably the last of the year, bright and dry troop night what was supposed to be a cave rescue night turned into games on the field. When we couldn’t see where the ball was landing we moved indoor and finished the night off.
The following week was planned as a wide game and that is what we did on another dry night. The area behind the ‘Rec’ is a smugglers paradise and the border guards were hard pressed to stop vital computer software getting smuggled into Switzerland. Confused? Yes so were most of us but a good time was had by all. The last fifteen minutes of the night were spent doing a little star gazing. It was no surprise that most of the scouts thought that Jupiter which was very bright over Chorley was the Pole Star. If you don’t know which one is the Pole Star, ask a scout!
We have a young troop at present and with a few of the older one moving on we need to select a few new Patrol and Assistant Patrol Leaders. So we put on a selection night which as John, our new assistant scout leader, said management consultants would charge a firm £1,000 to put on. Four bases were established and the troop went around them in small groups. Each base was a different type of challenge and the leader just watched to see which scouts took charge or contributed sensible ideas as to how to complete the task. Nigel now has his short list and all the new appointments will be announced soon.
Keeping flexible we moved the troop night to a Saturday morning and went down town to Boulder UK for an enjoyable morning. The trick here is not how high can you climb, the highest is about fifteen feet, but how far around can you go. With a chocolate bar as the prize numerous attempts were made at the orange route but none succeeded. Strange when you thing it was no more than four foot off the ground. We finished off an enjoyable morning by investing eight scouts into the group.
Nigel has formally taken over from Roger as Scout Leader and I would like to welcome John to the role of Assistant Scout Leader. Due to personal reasons Margaret is not with us at present so we would like another female leader. So if any mums, aunts or older sisters fancy coming and joining in the fun you would be very welcome.
